Dial 5730098 to check for solutions to problems’; ‘Interior’ sets up hotline for illegal expatriates

Expatriates eager to legalise their illegal residency status would be more than welcome to do so and the Interior Ministry would help on this aspect, said an official Wednesday. Interior Ministry’s undersecretary for citizenship affairs and passports Major-General Sheikh Ahmad Nawaf Al-Sabah told the press after a meeting for the technical committee to implement the new deportation law that Kuwait’s leadership decision to allow residency violators to leave the country without paying fines was a humanitarian step.

The department has also set up the 5730098 hotline for violators who would like to inquire about solutions to their problems, said Al-Ajmi. He added that the technical committee’s role was to ensure coordination among all immigration and Interior departments in order to execute the new decision. Al-Sabah affirmed that residency violators would be allowed to leave the country unless they have committed any serious criminal offenses. He also called on sponsors to bring laborers through official channels, saying that employing foreign laborers in jobs which were not specified in their contracts was in violation of the law. The ministry new deal-line began Tuesday and will continue till October 15. Those who take advantage of the new law will have a chance to return to Kuwait through regular residency procedures.

Meanwhile, Interior Ministry’s Director General for general investigations Falah Al-Ajmi said that the law would not include those who wanted felonies against governmental or private bodies. Residency violators who have no traveling documents would be allowed to leave the country within the specified period mentioned in the new law, affirmed Al-Ajmi. Violators have legal or administrative obstruction preventing them from leaving the country should ask the general department for immigration for temporary residency in order to settle their problems.
